Apple’s iPhone line will have a big change this year, as Cupertino looks to fit in with Android phone sizes and offer more choice on the size range. Sadly, the larger of the two iPhones might be delayed until 2015.
KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who has become the authority on Apple’s internal affairs, claims the size of the device, the in-cell technology and the different colors on the larger device’s metal back are cause for the delays.
The sapphire display on the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 is more cause for concern, with Apple struggling to make the display work as intended. Sapphire glass will be on both new iPhone 6 models, alongside the iWatch.
Apple has been citied as having more problems with the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 display, the battery life on the larger smartphone appears to be a struggle and creating the right board design for the larger device is proving a burden as well.
The 4.7-inch iPhone 6 should arrive on September this year, but the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 might be another six months away from an official release, and Apple does not normally do Spring or early Summer releases.
This could mean WWDC 2015 will be the launch event for the 5.5-inch iPhone 6, at that point it might just be better for Apple to launch it alongside the iPhone 6S, which will undoubtably come next year.
It is interesting that Apple is now adopting choice, the iPhone 5C was the first indication that Apple wanted to spread out the iPhone options for customers, now we might have the iPhone Colour and two iPhone 6 models.
