Samsung has been working on the Tizen OS project for quite some time now, as a new way to move away from Android and more importantly, Google.
The project has already had three iterations and is only on a handful of Samsung cameras, not making its way to any smartphones, tablets or other electronic appliances.
Today we have seen leaked images of the next version of Tizen OS and a new user interface update and the news on Tizen has kept coming, with invitations sent out by Tizen developers to Mobile World Congress, where they will show off new devices running the OS.
Samsung has declined to add the word ‘smartphone’ but we cannot see a longer delay, since the first Tizen smartphone was meant to arrive before the end of 2013.
There is no current report on a Tizen device and what the specifications list may or may not look like – leaving it out in the open for leakers, rumors and Samsung’s PR department, to try and ruffle up some excitement.
We believe Samsung will be going for the high-end with Tizen OS, unlike Firefox and Ubuntu who are looking to get into Android’s low-cost market.
Unlike TouchWiz, Tizen OS has some serious design changes that actually don’t look half bad – there is no weird screen sharing or any of the other odd features Samsung is known for, although these may be implemented later.
Mobile World Congress looks to host a huge amount of unveilings if we are to believe most rumors. Devices apparently coming to the event are the Xperia Z2, HTC One (Tw0?), LG G3, Galaxy S5 and new devices from ZTE and Huawei.
