What's This?

Samsung has already sent out invites to the Unpacked 5 event at Mobile World Congress and has decided to sneak another hint on their official blog, showing some of the new icons for applications to be announced on the Galaxy S5.

There is little doubt Samsung will announce the Galaxy S5 at their Unpacked event, considering the amount “5” hints we have seen posted on the official blog and other official Samsung media websites.

The nine apps include Speed, Outdoor, Curiosity, Fun, Social, Style, Privacy, Fitness and Life. All nine have been raised to the power of 5, another non-subtle hint from Samsung Tomorrow.

We are not sure if all of these icons will come to the Galaxy S5 and the new TouchWiz UI, considering the Life icon has an image of the Unpacked logo, we doubt this is the final design for Samsung.

Still, it does show a new sense of design, a flat colorful aesthetic. The white on each icon works to make all the applications feel like a set, rather than an individual application, similar to the iOS7 app icon redesign.

We are expecting a big change on the user interface side when it comes to TouchWiz, Magazine UX was a good show of things to come, even if Google didn’t approve of the cards home-screen Samsung had developed.

Samsung is apparently looking to add two new Galaxy S5 models, one will run last year’s specs and be priced against mid-range smartphones and the other will run high-end specs, competing with this year’s flagship phones.

Apple did the same thing last year with the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C. We believe the low-end Galaxy S5 will come in a plastic shell, while the high-end model will adopt a new metallic unibody, Samsung’s first.

All should be revealed at Mobile World Congress later this month, we will keep you updated with all news on the Galaxy S5.
