What's This?

Samsung has been looking to further extend the resolution on their next flagship device, alongside Sony, Oppo and other brands. Instead of 1080p, companies are already jumping on the “2K display” bandwagon or 2560 x 1440 to be precise.

There have been plenty of questions on the tag-line for the higher resolution panel, considering full HD was 1920 x 1080 and the “2K display” is only a half increase, not hitting the full 2K on the horizontal side.

Whatever the case, Samsung looks to once again upgrade the resolution. The Galaxy S4 came with a full HD display and now the Galaxy S5 will come with a 2K display, a new panel, we believe this will come from Sharp or Samsung.

SamsungGalaxyS5Abonnement, quite a long website name, has revealed the specs, with a DPI of 560. The small German blog talks about the Galaxy S5 in detail and has added some articles in the past revealing specs.

The resolution of the Galaxy S5 will be a big step up and could carve the way to the 4K display new year, something Sharp, Samsung Display and others are already working towards for 2015.

Samsung will not stop there, we are hearing reports of both a 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon processor and 2.0GHz octa-core Exynos 6 processor, alongside 3GB of RAM, 16, 32, 64 and 128GB of internal storage, 3,000 mAh battery, Bluetooth 4.0, LTE-A, WiFi a/b/g/n/ac, an infrared blaster and NFC.

On the software side, Samsung will look to add the latest version of Android KitKat 4.4, underneath the new version of TouchWiz UI. We suspect we will see an overhaul on design, adding new flat icons and possibly reworking widgets to make them flat and colorful.

Samsung is likely to announce the Galaxy S5 at Mobile World Congress later this week, at their Unpacked event they have scheduled. We should see other smartphones revealed at the same event, possibly a new Windows Phone and some tablets.

We will be covering MWC live from Barcelona from the 21st of Feb, please follow us and stay tuned!
