The new HTC One is another Android flagship to throw into the bunch, but Windows Phone users have seen no love from the Taiwanese manufacturer since late 2012, when they announced the HTC 8S and 8X.
According to a rumor from WPDang, HTC will be bringing the exact same smartphone with Windows Phone to market sometime this year, skipping the originality part of designing a device for the same look on both flagships.
This was reported on in 2013 and never came to fruition, but Microsoft has had more of an active interest in the past few months on Windows Phone, apparently trying to pen a $1 billion deal with Samsung to create more devices.
Microsoft may have made a deal or persuaded HTC to come back to Windows Phone. We remember after poor sales in 2012, there were rumors HTC had dropped their second mobile platform, favouring one approach.
The new HTC One has a 5.1-inch 1080p display, quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor, 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. If the One came to Windows Phone, it would definitely be a contender for top spot, something Nokia has held onto for a few years.
In order to keep Windows Phone fresh and competitive, having HTC and Samsung actually compete on the platform could be beneficial, even though in 2011 and 2012 Nokia showed they could win the battle.
Most of Windows Phone sales are in the low-end of the market, with the Nokia Lumia 520 and 521 holding around 25 percent of the market. This may be one of the main reasons for partners not working on high-end devices.
The HTC One does have a lot of new changes that only work the open source Android platform, including BlinkFeed. This may mean the Windows Phone version will have alterations to include the new features in Sense 6.0.
