What's This?

Motorola may have not had the biggest volume of sales on the Moto X, but it became a fan favorite in the US and Europe due to its near stock Android, impressive software touches and customisable design.

It looks like the Moto X1 will be the successor to the Moto X and with all the new leaks and rumors, the most recent happening today on the Moto Maker website, it seems likely the phone will be announced in the next few weeks.

The Moto Maker website showed the placeholder webpage for the Moto X1 under the codename FLEXR2, which could be added into the address bar. The webpage is now null and Motorola appears to have removed all trace of the next phone.

This does mean the Moto X1 will use the same Moto Maker tool to customise the phone, although we might see more customisation available. Reports say Motorola want to get the Moto X to a point where everything is customisable, but this will not happen this year.

Moto X1 should have some big changes on the specs sheet, with a new quad-core processor, 3GB of RAM, 1080p screen and hopefully a 64GB storage option. Design may change slightly, we wouldn’t be surprised to see an upgrade in the screen size department.

Motorola will also be adding a new Moto G smartphone later in the year, along with the Moto 360 smartwatch. The world for Motorola must be a little weird, considering they are in the middle of a move to Chinese electronics giant Lenovo, a company that won’t be as laid back as Google.

This move should not impact any of the devices at Motorola this year, though we might see a movement to a global audience, rather than US only smartphone. Motorola’s US factories will most likely be dropped in favor of Lenovo’s Chinese digs, to reduce costs.
