What's This?

HTC has already confirmed they are working on a wearable this year, CEO Peter Chou is now in charge of future projects instead of the day-to-day smartphones and software that other parts of the Taiwanese company are working on.

The first wearable will be named the HTC One Wear, according to TK Tech News, who have been visiting Taiwan to get a hands-on of the smartwatch. The leaker said they were provided a demo of the One Wear, showing some of the features and design.

The HTC One Wear should be one of the launch smartwatches running Android Wear, Google’s new SDK for wearables. LG and Motorola have already shown off their wearables and according to the report the One Wear will be a competitor to the Moto 360.

No photos were shown of the HTC One Wear, the design is still under question. If it is meant to be a competitor to the Moto 360, we expect it to have a circular watch-face, instead of the rectangular watch-face on the LG G Watch and other smartwatches.

Android Wear looks to be a less customisable OS, even though its based off Android. The interface is heavily reliant on Google Now, the contextual information virtual assistant and most interactivity with the OS will come from voice recognition.

This could be a little obstructive for some people and we cannot see Android Wear and other smartwatches becoming mainstream consumer devices, at least until a lot of people have started using them and it becomes comfortable in public.

No release date, but HTC should be announcing the One Wear in the Summer, along with the Moto 360 and LG G Watch. Google I/O will be a prime place for more reveals on release dates and information on the OS, happening on June 25/26.
