What's This?

The Yotaphone 2 has been in the media for over eight months, but has not been available for customers until now.

For anyone who has forgot about the Yotaphone, the Russian-designed smartphone has two displays, on the front and back. The front is a standard AMOLED display and the display on the back is an e-paper, similar to the Pebble Watch or Kindle Paperwhite.

The first edition of the Yotaphone has been available for over a year now, but the Yotaphone 2 offered several design and internal upgrades to interest customers. It was also meant to be a bigger push by the Russian based company, but has turned out to be a long wait and limited country options, like the previous Yotaphone.

Yotaphone 2 will a 5-inch full HD display, alongside a 4.7-inch e-paper display. Both will have Gorilla Glass 3 protection and seamless edges, a nice touch Yotaphone has added on the second generation.

Internally, the Yotaphone 2 runs an outdated 2.2GHz Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. Various smartphones on the market today sport Snapdragon 801 or 805 processor and the Snapdragon 810 is not far around the corner.

Battery life is hard to measure due to the difference between e-paper and LCD. If a user only uses the e-paper display, they may hit up to 5 days without charge, while the LCD display will limit the user to 8.5 hours of screen-on time.

Other features included on the Yotaphone 2 include 4G connectivity, an 8MP rear camera and 2.1MP front camera.

Yotaphone 2 will go on sale in 20 different countries, costing £555 (€699, $870), around the same price as normal high-end phones. For customers who want to use two different displays, it might be worth it, but otherwise it lacks the apps and performance to match the top-end.
