Gresso—similar to Vertu—enjoys making devices way out of the range of most customers. The latest device, named the Gresso Regal, goes for $4,999 (£3,199) on the market and is one of the best looking Android phones of the year.
Competing in a market with the HTC One M8 Gold Edition, various gold iPhones and other high-end suppliers like the aforementioned Vertu, it is not typical to see a smartphone that looks similar to “premium” phone in the $600 to $1000 category.
However, looking past the design and into the build materials, the Gresso Regal Black Edition is built out of titanium with a two tone design, the top and bottom black and the middle brushed grey. There is also a strip of 18-karat gold, where Gresso’s logo is found.
Titanium is a lot stronger than the normal aluminium or plastic we see from other providers, and as long as the Gresso Regal lands on its back, there should never be any fall damage.
Other features on the device include a 5-inch full HD display, quad-core 1.5GHz processor, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, 13MP rear camera and 5MP front camera. It looks similar to most Android devices, apart from the poor clock speed on the processor.
Gresso Regal Black Edition will feature Android KitKat 4.4.4 at launch, and hopefully Gresso will update the smartphone to Lollipop before too long. In previews, it looks like the Gresso Regal will run near stock Android.
If £3,100 is a bit too expensive, Gresso does offer another option for £1999 without the PvD coating in titanium. This is still extremely expensive, costing even more than the iPhone 6 Plus 128GB option with a leather case and Apple two year warranty.
