Tonino Lamborghini is not looking to appeal to the common Android owner, but the premium smartphone maker has arrived at the Consumer Electronics Show 2015 (CES) to show off its new 88 Tauri.
Most super-expensive smartphones feature a rather wacky build, looking more like a part of a high-end car than a smartphone. The 88 Tauri is similar in that regard, featuring an “automotive grade” cow-skin leather back, with premium stainless steel sides.
Surprisingly, unlike most Vertu smartphones, the 88 Tauri strikes a nice blend between car part and smartphone, even though the front features way too much bezel for most Android fans.
Specs wise, the 88 Tauri also features some high-end specs, starting with a 5-inch 1080p display, 2.3GHz Snapdragon 801 processor, 3GB of RAM, 64GB of internal storage, 20MP rear camera, 8MP front camera, 3400mAh battery and dual-LTE capabilities.
Bit of a shame Lamborghini couldn’t add a 2K display, considering the profit margin for the 88 Tauri must be huge, considering the price starts at $6,000 and goes up to $6,300 on specific units.
The 88 Tauri will also feature stock Android, but Lamborghini has not specified what version of Android will run on the smartphone once it launches — currently customers can pre-order the device.
In the realm of normal humans, the 88 Tauri is never going to be a consideration, since almost every smartphone on the planet without the name Vertu and Gresso costs less than $1,000 even at the highest spec.
For $6,300, a customer could buy Samsung’s 4K 55-inch curved TV, the 128GB Galaxy Note 4, the Galaxy Note Pro 10.1 and the highest specification Lenovo ThinkPad. In the same vein, a customer could buy Apple’s Mac Pro, the 128GB iPhone 6 Plus, the 128GB iPad Air 2 and still have $1,000 left over.
