Xiaomi Unveils the Redmi K60 Pro

With the aim of ending the year on a high note, Xiaomi announced its latest Redmi K60 series phones, comprised of the Redmi K60 Pro, Redmi K60, and the Redmi K60E. The new trio of Android handsets come with some interesting hardware, and the Redmi K60 Pro in particular packs the most powerful specs out of all three K60 variants.

To start things off, the K60 Pro comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, making the phone ideal for performance-demanding tasks and gaming. On the front of the phone is a 6.67” AMOLED display with a 3200 x 1440 pixel resolution and a maximum brightness of 1400 nits, 120Hz refresh rate, as well as an in-display fingerprint scanner.

In terms of design, Xiaomi seems to be going for a somewhat industrial-looking approach, what with the carbon fibre accents on the edges of the device, as well as a textured rear panel. It makes for a nice design though, setting it apart from the glass-and-metal sandwiches that we usually see from most manufacturers.

As for camera hardware, the phone comes equipped with a 16-megapixel front-facing camera situated in a hole-punch set-up on the display, a main 50-megapixel lens with a Sony IMX800 sensor on the rear panel, accompanied by an 8-megapixel ultra-wide camera and a 2-megapixel macro sensor.

In terms of power, the phone is powered by a 5,000 mAh battery, with support for an insanely-fast 120W charging speed. Xiaomi says that the phone is fitted with a Surge P1 charging chip, which handles power distribution during charging. The phone can go from zero to 100 percent in under 20 minutes. There’s also wireless charging support with 30W charging speeds.

This launch follows the debut of the flagship Xiaomi 13 series devices, which include the 13 and 13 Pro. Both phones run on Qualcomm’s newest Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, albeit with some key differences. For one, the Xiaomi 13 Pro comes with a large 6.73-inch display with a 120Hz variable refresh rate, a 1440 x 3200px resolution, HDR10+, Dolby Vision, and even an ambient color temperature sensor, a feature not commonly seen on most current smartphones.

Meanwhile, the Xiaomi 13 comes with a 6.36-inch OLED display with a 1080 x 2400px resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, Dolby Vision, HDR10+ and an ambient color sensor, very similar to its slightly more premium sibling. On the rear panel is a 50MP main camera, a 10MP Leica telephoto lens, and a 12MP ultrawide lens. Powering the phone is a 4,500 mAh unit with 67W fast wired charging, 50W wireless charging and 10W reverse wireless charging.

Going back to the Redmi K60 Pro, the phone will come in green, black, white, and a special “Champion Performance” Edition, while costing around €455 for the 8/128 GB base variant, and €620 for the maxed-out 16/512 GB option. It’s only available in China at the moment however, although a global release is very likely to follow soon. With that said, it’s speculated that the K60 series might be rebranded as POCO devices for global markets.
