It’s been a while now since Motorola’s return to the smart wearable segment, and while its recent crop of Moto Watch models haven’t exactly taken the market by storm, that hasn’t stopped the manufacturer from introducing new models every now and then – enter the new Moto Watch 120, which was just recently announced and expands Motorola’s line of smartwatches. That being said, maybe you’re wondering what exactly the Moto Watch 120 comes with, and that’s exactly what we’re here for. Let’s take a look!
Design
The Moto Watch 120 doesn’t do much to stand out from competing smart wearables on the market in terms of overall aesthetics. What it does do however is play it safe, and doesn’t stray from the form factor that so many smartwatch users have become accustomed to. The Moto Watch 120’s design features a rounded watch face, and is made from zinc alloy which is available in a “Phantom Black” colour and features IP68 water resistance. There are also two action buttons on the right hand side which can be used to navigate through the apps and menus.
Display
As for its display, the Watch 120 comes with a 1.43-inch display, which is a pretty standard size on most smartwatches these days. It is an AMOLED display thankfully, which means that you’ll get better-looking colours and contrast than usual, especially when compared to LCD screens. With that said though, Motorola isn’t too clear if the touchscreen uses any kind of protective glass such as Gorilla Glass or Sapphire, for that matter.
Battery
Inside the device, you’ll find a 300 mAh capacity battery, a decent size which should be enough for most usage conditions. In fact, Motorola claims that the watch can last for up to ten days on a single charge, although this of course will be affected by individual usage patterns such as screen brightness, app use and more. The watch does support quick charging which is a welcome feature, especially if you’re in a hurry.
Software
Unlike other smartwatches like the Google Pixel Watch or Samsung Galaxy Watch series, the Moto Watch 120 does not run on Google’s Wear OS device platform. Instead, it uses Motorola’s own Moto Watch OS which is a custom software platform with exclusive Motorola features. It does support apps like Google Fit though, so you can still integrate your personal stats and metrics into Google’s health platform. The watch also comes with more than a hundred sports modes, automatic activity detection, and support for always-on heart tracking.
Price
The Moto Watch 120 is priced at around $130, making it more affordable compared to other non-Wear OS devices like the Huawei Watch series, for example. Of course there are some limitations due to not having Wear OS onboard, and for a bit more you can get the Samsung Galaxy Watch FE instead, if you’re after a device with support for Google’s wearable system. On the other hand, folks after a relatively-affordable smartwatch under the Motorola brand might want to check out the Moto Watch 120.
