What's This?

September is always a busy month for tech, and it seems that every week we’re bombarded by a multitude of tech headlines from brands both big and small, old and new, you get what we mean. Nevertheless, you might be curious if you’ve missed out on any possible announcements from your favourite consumer electronics brands, and with that in mind we’ve put together this quick recap of tech news that might just be enough to keep you on the edge of your seat. Let’s get started!

iOS 18 Arrives for Several iPhone Models

Arriving shortly after the announcement of the iPhone 16 series, iOS 18 offers significant enhancements, a lot of which have been available on Android phones for decades. You can even say that it’s a lot closer to Android now, as there’s also support for Rich Communication Services (RCS) allowing users to send high-quality photos and videos between iPhones and Android devices. Users can now customize their Home Screen with new layouts and app icon options, and the Photos app has been simplified to make it easier to find and relive memories. Messages and Mail have received updates to enhance communication and organization as well. Unfortunately though, Apple Intelligence features are still not available as they won’t be arriving until later this year.

Meet HTC’s Newest VR Headset

HTC’s efforts in the VR and MR hardware space haven’t gone unnoticed, and the company recently expanded its offerings with the new HTC Vive Focus Vision. Priced at $999, the headset is designed with an extra focus on giving users immersive gaming experiences, and comes with a 2448 x 2448 resolution display per-eye, as well as a 120-degree field of view. Inside the device is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon XR2 chip, which is specially-designed for such uses. Also built into the headset are a pair of 16MP cameras that support colour passthrough, with lenses that can adjust automatically depending on a user’s eyes. Other hardware specifications include DisplayPort support, 128GB of internal storage, 12GB of RAM, and compatibility with Focus 3 accessories.

Sony Celebrates PlayStation’s 30th Year Anniversary

It still blows our mind that it’s already been three decades since the debut of the original PlayStation. As such, Sony is celebrating the 30th anniversary of its OG console with a limited edition series of consoles and accessories featuring the original PlayStation’s grey colour scheme. The 30th Anniversary editions will be available for the PS5 Pro, PS5 Digital Edition, PlayStation Portal, and DualSense Edge controller. However, the PS5 Pro variant will only be available in limited quantities (12,300 units) and will launch on November 21 with pre-orders starting on September 26.

DJI Announces the Osmo Action 5 Pro

DJI once again goes head-to-head with GoPro with its new DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro, a feature-packed action camera with enough tricks that one can probably refer to it as a Swiss Army action camera. You’ll find a 1/1.3 inch sensor, SuperNight Mode, AI-based tracking, 47GB storage, Wi-Fi 6 support, a 1,950 mAh battery, and 20-meter water resistance. DJI claims that it can capture stunning footage in low-light conditions and offers convenient features like live streaming and fast file transfers. Available in two bundles, the standard bundle ($349) includes essential accessories, while the Adventure Combo ($449) adds a battery case and extension rod in addition to the other accessories.
