What's This?

The Samsung Galaxy S24 FE is here, and as such it continues Samsung’s tradition of launching slightly more affordable FE variants of its main flagship devices (it’s priced starting at £649). While many have anticipated the S24 FE’s arrival there are some things that might be divisive, especially among hardcore Android fans who want the most bang for their buck. In any case, you might be curious as to what Samsung has cooked up with the Galaxy S24 FE – here are five things you need to know!

Display Hardware

As with most premium Samsung phones, the Galaxy S24 FE packs an AMOLED display – on the phone you’ll find a rather large 6.7-inch screen (sorry small phone lovers) which features a 120Hz refresh rate, alongside an FHD+ resolution. It’s pretty standard fare for most upper midrange handsets these days, so there’s not much of a surprise here. It does get pretty bright with a peak brightness of 1,900 nits, and is protected by a layer of Gorilla Glass Victus+.

External Design

Since this is an S24-series phone, Samsung has seen fit to give the S24 a general look that’s pretty much in line with the rest of its S24 devices (save for the Ultra). As a result, you’ll find that it looks very similar to the Galaxy S24, S24 Plus, and even the S23 phones from last year. The S24 FE features rounded corners made from aluminium, as well as a Gorilla Glass back. It also comes with IP68 dust and water resistance at up to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes.

Internal Specs

Samsung has stuck to its guns with the S24 FE’s processor – the company has continued the use of its own Exynos line of chips for the S24 FE, in the form of the Exynos 2400e. Samsung says that it’s been built for efficiency, and is accompanied by up to 8GB of RAM (with up to 512GB of storage), as well as a slightly redesigned vapour chamber for better cooling during gaming sessions. Meanwhile, the phone runs on a 4,700 mAh battery with support for 25W wired charging speeds, and 15W wireless charging.

Camera Setup

For cameras, the Galaxy S24 FE comes with a pretty standard-issue camera system composed of three different shooters. This includes a 12MP ultra-wide camera with a 123° field of view, a 50MP wide camera with optical image stabilization and an 84° field of view, an 8MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom, optical image stabilization and a 32° field of view, and a 10MP front camera for selfies and video calls. Meanwhile, video recording maxes out at 4K resolution at up to 60 fps.

Software

For software, you get Android 14 onboard, layered with Samsung’s own One UI 6.1 software. A modified version of Android, One UI 6.1 features exclusive Samsung apps and software features, as well as Samsung’s own AI-based software like live translate and note assist. Of course there’s a few features from Google as well such as Circle to Search, which is pretty handy.
