LG might have been out of the smartphone game for a good number of years now, but its presence in the home appliance and electronics industry remains stronger than ever. In fact, the South Korean tech giant recently announced the global launch of its 77-inch LG SIGNATURE OLED T, which features a transparent wireless 4K OLED panel. LG says that the TV is set to launch initially for North America, to be followed by a global rollout in the coming weeks and months.

The OLED T first made its appearance back in CES this year, featuring a design that allows its panel to shift between an opaque display to a transparent one with a simple button press, giving users a flexible viewing experience. LG says that the TV’s transparent mode creates an illusion of content freely floating in mid-air, giving the appearance of on-screen visuals melding within the surrounding area. Additionally, the OLED T can provide great contrast and colour balance despite its transparent display.
Given LG’s marketing of the OLED T as a “wireless” TV, the set comes without the need for cables, and instead works with the LG Zero Connect Box. Simply put, the Zero Connect Box transmits video and audio signals with near-zero latency, eliminating the need for cumbersome and cluttered cable setups. The OLED T also supports 4K-resolution content with a 120Hz refresh rate, including compatibility with NVIDIA G-SYNC and AMD FreeSync Premium. LG says that the TV is also powered by its α (Alpha) 11 AI processor, allowing it to optimize both picture and sound quality.
LG has also included its “T-Objet” feature, which is essentially an Always-On-Display (AOD) setting that allows users to display different images on the screen whenever it’s on standby mode – this includes artwork, videos or photos. There’s aso a “T-Bar” component which is a minimal info ticker on the bottom of the display, which can feed users with updates on connected device settings, weather forecasts, sports results, and even music track information, to name some. Meanwhile, “T-Home” serves as the main UI where users can access their apps, channels, and settings.
With all that being said, the LG Signature OLED T is a rather pricey affair, coming in at $60,000. The company does seem confident about its market performance, citing its unique user-focused approach to entertainment and usability. Park Hyoung-sei, President of the LG Media Entertainment Solution Company comments:
“LG SIGNATURE OLED T is an exceptional user-focused innovation that offers a distinctive, multi-faceted viewing experience and unprecedented spatial flexibility… LG remains at the forefront of innovation by combining its industry-leading OLED technology with unique form factors, transparent screens, wireless connectivity and more, delivering unparalleled, life-enriching advancements no other TV maker can replicate.”
