3D Sweep Panorama
One of the newest technologies to be developed for digital cameras is the 3D sweep panorama. Unique to Sony, 3D sweep panorama is one of the most revolutionary new features.
Panorama means a wide, unobstructed view of all directions of a continuous landscape and the Sweep Panorama system works by combining images from different angles to create an over-all view of a landscape.
The user then ‘sweeps’ the camera along the desired expanse and it will then shoot up to 100 frames at high speed. The frames are then blended to create one long picture. This works using both landscape and horizontal panorama which means you should never have to miss a single detail.
When scene has been captured and stored on the camera, the best way of presenting this would be to display it with a 3D TV. Compatible TV’s include the BRAVIA 3DTV and using 3D glasses, the viewer can then access the panorama and explore the entire scene in a stunning three-dimensional form, using the Cyber-Shots multi-angle features.
A further development from Sony is the new Sweep Panorama HR mode which captures the pictures in 42.9 mega-pixel high resolution.
The Sony Cyber-shot range which all include this, are subsequently at the highest end of 3D cameras. This is because other 3D models require two lenses to shoot the variety of angles required for panorama, whereas Sony achieve the same effect using just a single lens.
The cameras that come fully equipped with 3D Sweep panorma are the Sony Cybershot DX1, HX1, TX1 and the HX9V which is due to be released in 2011. For the best presentation results, the 3D images require a 3DTV and with the Sony BRAVIA pricing in at around £999, this camera is not an everyday gadget.
