What's This?

“High mobile data roaming charges is something travellers have accepted for far too long. Consumers are charged exorbitant prices for using their mobile phone abroad and we are relieved that the EU has finally agreed to go even further than its previous regulatory efforts to protect mobile users.

“The only disappointment is with internet data roaming, where some people will have to wait until 2014 to see the benefits from their existing mobile provider when the price cap will be set at 20 cents per MB – for the time being they will still have to face costs of up to 56p per MB.

“It was people’s frustration with high overseas phone bills that pushed us to launch our new international pre-paid SIM card, toggle Mobile, where we have slashed costs to just 15p per MB for data roaming in most European countries.

“We encourage consumers to be savvy, think about how they will tackle the issue in advance of their travels and check the small print. Our research prior to launching toggle Mobile was not all deals are what they are cracked up to be, something we have looked to address by simplifying our tariff across our network so one rate applies to all and providing the best value for customers.”

Toggle Mobile is a pre-paid SIM launched in April 2012 which gives consumers:

  • The toggle Mobile SIM card which gives travellers up to 90% off roaming when using their mobile phone abroad and they can receive incoming calls for free in up to 100 countries worldwide.
  • The new mobile technology allows users to receive free incoming calls in over 100 countries worldwide and make international calls from £0.04 per minute
  • Plus customers can add up to nine local numbers on top of a permanent UK number – the local number enables travellers to make both regional and international calls at a reasonable rate.
  • It can be used in multiple countries and multiple times which beats buying a single local SIM card when abroad.
  • The toggle Mobile network currently spans the UK, Netherlands, Australia, Denmark, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Germany, France and Poland plus the USA, Canada, Ireland, Portugal, Belgium and Italy are all coming on board throughout 2012.
  • Competitive rates offered within the toggle network include calls from 15p a minute, SMS at 9p per message and internet browsing for 15p per MB.

  1. Joined Toggle on 15th May and rang to give PAC code to move a number from O2 to Toggle, all fine so far and was told it would be done on Thurs 17th. Received a text to confirm this on both my o2 number and Toggle number to advise it will be completed on the 17th.

Thursay 17th – O2 release number to Toggle. Toggle not activated number from o2 to my Toggle sim, Result nobody can call or text me as my number is “not recognised”. Several phone calls to Toggle cust service (off shore custmer service agents) apologise and assure me that it will be completed by midnight. Friday 18th still no number, and several phone calls again to a foreign based call centre who just apologise and say it will be done by midnight tonight. Fat chance of that it is now 8:30pm and my number still hasn’t been ported to Toggle. It is a massive inconvenience, work calls and text have not been received now for 2 days. What makes it more frustrating is the fact that Toggle piggy back off of o2 yet me porting a number from o2 itself hasn’t happened. While the service seemed appealing at the time, I really wish I’d not bothered as it has caused nothing but trouble and they don’t seem to want to resolve it very quickly, in the meantime I’m not being able to be contacted on my phone number that I’ve had for ages. I won’t recommend them especially if someone wants to port their number to them 🙁

    • Sorry to hear about your troubles. I know this might not help but sometimes it can be complicated transferring numbers when they are piggy backed. I really hope it gets sorted and keep us updated. Can O2 do anything to help?
