According to a new rumour, the Nexus 5 may skip the full HD smartphone experience and work on camera innovation instead. The Nexus 5 will come with a 4.5-inch screen and may have a lacklustre display, compared to the HTC One and Galaxy S4.
The source has revealed that the Nexus 5 will come with a 720p IPS display, instead of a 1080p AMOLED/IPS display, which is the on the current trend of smartphones.
Google will add this cheaper and less sharp display in order to create an almost bezel-less smartphone. The front screen will be 88% phone display, with only 12% for push keys.
Due to the display being the most battery consuming feature on a smartphone, the 720p IPS display will suck less juice out of the Nexus 5, giving even longer battery life.
Google’s smartphone will come with a 2800mAh battery, which will power for a full day without charge. We suspect the phone will come with NFC as well, for wireless charging. Perhaps Google has been cooking up some new wireless charging stations since they launched the Nexus 4.
In other specs, the source says the Nexus 5 will have Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 quad-core processor, which is strange considering the more powerful Snapdragon 800 will probably be available when launched.
The Nexus 5 will come with some advanced camera technology, and the phone will have a 9MP CCD camera. We believe Google has been working on a host of different features for the camera, which will be released with Android Key Lime Pie, at Google I/O.
We cannot see Google taking any chances with this smartphone, especially considering how big the gap as gotten with Samsung and other partners. We believe Google will take a firm step in this race, and between the Nexus 5 and X Phone, they may try and completely absorb Samsung’s mobile business.
