According to The Verge, Microsoft has been planning an Xbox event where they will reveal the new Xbox, but this event has been pushed back from April to May.
The event will be the first reveal of the new Xbox, and although there has been nothing from Redmond about this event, The Verge sources believe this date is accurate, and must have some very close sources to make this assumption.
Originally, the date for the new Xbox release was April 24, however this has been pushed back to May 21. No reason was given as to why the date has been changed, we suspect some features were not ready in time.Â
The event will apparently be at a small venue and Microsoft will show a good amount of new features coming to the new Xbox. Microsoft may fully unveil the console, reports have said the company has almost fully developed the system for general use.
Controversy has arisen due to Microsoft’s “always on” connection they will be adding to the next Xbox. This will require the user to always be online, which may combat piracy, even though console piracy is still pretty low.
Microsoft may also be adding Kinect 2.0 and integrating it with the console, so users have it whether they want it or not. Again, this has been the subject of controversy, because people don’t want Kinect to be in the way of their gaming experience.
We suspect Microsoft’s Xbox event in May will be about the console’s specifications, design and user experience. Games will probably be left until E3, where Sony and Microsoft will battle it out for floor space.
Around the web, the major stance is if Microsoft goes for a fully online, Kinect integrated Xbox, then the switch to the PlayStation 4 will be massive. This may be true, considering the vast majority of core gamers want an offline mode and no gimmicks.
