As devoted fans, customers, and shareholders are well aware by now, news out of Apple has been particularly slow lately. With other smartphone providers catching up, new ideas apparently slow to come by, and, let’s be honest, Steve Jobs having tragically passed away, Apple seems to be losing its edge in many of its ongoing tech battles with competitors. Indeed, you might have better luck finding something new by browsing iPhone accessories at my smart buy than by actually walking into the nearest Apple Store!
Nevertheless, speculation never seems to stop as to when Apple will give us an exciting new product – even if that speculation is beginning to sound a bit more hopeful than expectant. Lately, much attention has been turned to the rumours of a more affordable version of the iPhone hitting the market some time soon, but as far as new innovations, the closest thing we seem to have to an upcoming product is the iPhone 5S, which may well be released by late summer, or at least before the holiday season.
As we know, the “S-series,” so to speak, of iPhones is not the exciting line. It seems that Apple’s numbered upgrades – as in, iPhone 4 to iPhone 5 – are where the true changes come into play, with the “S” versions in between signaling only minor upgrades. At this point, however, a minor upgrade may be enough to get people excited about Apple yet again, so without further ado here are a few of the hottest rumours regarding what the iPhone 5S will bring us that we haven’t seen before.
- iOS7 – It’s widely assumed that Apple will release iOS7 at some point later this year, so it’s only logical to figure that the iPhone 5S will be compatible with the new system. Within iOS7, one of the most interesting rumours is a “flat” display of apps, as opposed to the 3D design we’re accustomed to.
- Colours – Another rumour, though a semi-unsubstantiated one, is that the 5S will come in more colours than the standard black and white. Metallic silver and gold have been suggested, and some even wonder if the new phone will come in the full array of colours offered for iPod Nanos.
- Enhanced Display – Rumours vary as to the specific degree of high definition that will be employed, but it seems safe to say that the 5S will come with a significantly enhanced display to rival, and likely exceed that of any competitors.
- Variable Size – The rumours of the iPhone 5S coming in various sizes are largely tied to the aforementioned concept of a cheaper, plastic offering. However, it is possible that the 5S itself will come in multiple sizes, following the path of some popular Android phones.
- Fingerprint Security – Finally, for a fun gimmick, some have suggested that the 5S may include a fingerprint recognition program, which could conceivably be used for unlocking security.
