Google seems to be finished the Nexus smartphone line, with the Moto X Phone solidifying their merge with Motorola and the new Google Edition smartphones keeping stock Android relevant.
It appears Google wants to expand this ‘Google Edition’ idea to all major Android high tier smartphones, we already have the Samsung Galaxy S4 and the HTC One back with stock Android.
Sony’s Xperia Z may be the next candidate for the Google Edition adoption, Sony has been open about the Android experience and programmers with knowledge can change the skin back to the stock experience.
Google will make this simpler by offering the Xperia Z without any skinning at all. The phone will be unlocked and on the Google Play store if the rumours are true, which we suspect they are.
We recently heard rumours Sony was developing the next Nexus smartphone, but perhaps this has been halted as Google wants to focus on their own handsets and Google Editions.
While there are still a few Android high end smartphones without the Google treatment, the three main high-tier smartphones right now would be the GS4, HTC One and Xperia Z.
