Since the big buzz around 4G service in the UK that saw the birth of EE, a combination of Orange and Tmobile, not everyone in the UK has been able to take advantage of those fast mobile internet speeds, mainly due to other network’s involvement in offering the service. Â Licensing issues was another issue which meant EE were at the poll position for a long time.
To add to the competition, O2 UK has revealed they will be joining the list of providers of  high-speed data only they are set to go live on August 29.  Major cities with more traffic such as London, Leeds, Bradford, Birmingham, Newcastle, Glasgow, Liverpool, Nottingham, Leicester, Coventry, Sheffield, Manchester, and Edinburgh; first three of those cities will get 4G LTE first followed by the rest by the end of 2013.
O2 will have some catching up to do with EE  already ahead with LTE coverage in 95 UK towns and cities and growing with double-speed LTE service in fifteen cities.  O2’s 4G launch should be welcomed as it would add to the competition and see networks drop 4G pricing in comparison to the prices EE introduced at launch.
No word yet on other players like Vodafone and Three UK yet, but hopefully they will join the competition very soon.
