It seems unlike previous ideas, the Sony Xperia Z1 (previously Honami) will not be a new brand from Sony, but instead a continuation on the Xperia range. The Xperia Z1 will be the new flagship smartphone, with better internals and a massive camera.
A new teaser has revealed the Xperia Z1 will come with the same waterproof features on the original Xperia Z. This is good and bad, for those that want a waterproof smartphone, this could be great, but for those that want an incredibly display, recent rumours say this screen is going to be pretty bleak compared to the HTC One or Galaxy S4.
Still, if the Xperia Z was a challenger for the #1 spot on Android, this may take over the top. The Xperia Z1 will come with a 20MP camera with Xenon flash, optical zoom and f/2.4 aperture, all words that just mean it will be brilliant and come with tons of features.
Internally it looks like a refreshed Xperia Z, with a Snapdragon 800 CPU, 2GB of RAM, Adreno 330 GPU, 32GB of internal storage, 3050mAh battery and 5.2-inch 1080p display. Sony will pack the BRAVIA engine into the device and it will come with the custom UI skin Sony adds to all Xperia devices.
Camera software may be added for better clarity and auto-focus – the Xperia Z1 is going up against the Galaxy S4 Zoom, Nokia Lumia 1020 and the Oppo N1, reportedly coming out before the end of the year.
