Qualcomm’s unending venture into the research and development of mobile chipsets has yielded a lot of impressive chips over the years, and while the company is mostly known for its flagship Series-8 Snapdragon chips, it’s also given consumers a ton of more affordable chipsets. With that said, it looks like Qualcomm will soon be releasing a new addition to its midrange Snapdragon Series 7 line.
A poster teased by Qualcomm’s international social media account sets a date for a March 17 launch event, and this has many looking forward to the debut for the upcoming addition to the Snapdragon Series 7 line. A few months back, the company launched the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, which currently powers a number of high-end Android phones including the Samsung Galaxy S23 series, the OnePlus 11, and the Xiaomi 13, to name a few. Additionally, it’s not yet sure if the upcoming SoC will be called the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 1 or 7 Gen 2, at least at the time being.
As for the actual hardware itself, many are expecting that the new Qualcomm chip would be designed with TSMC’s 4nm manufacturing process, and will feature a 1x Ultra Core with 2.92GHz frequency, 3x Performance Cores with 2.5GHz frequency, and 4x Energy-efficient Cores with 1.8GHz frequency. Additionally, an Adreno 730 is rumored to be onboard.
There have been some Geekbench listings as well, which show that the chip’s performance is near to that of Qualcomm’s own Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, and MediaTek Dimensity 9000 and Snapdragon 8+ Gen1 chipsets.
In recent Qualcomm news, the company has also been investing into other hardware ventures – a while back, the company also announced that it plans to continue pursuing its work on Wi-fi 7 technology. Qualcomm says that it has secured more than 175 Wi-Fi 7 design wins across different product categories, including nearly every announced or in-development device based on the flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Mobile platform.
Qualcomm adds that its collaborations with various hardware manufacturers have enabled more than 1,600 Wi-Fi 6 and 6E-enabled products to be launched, including those currently in development. This includes a full device ecosystem such as access points, routers, gateways, smartphones, PC, XR and more. Qualcomm has also been working on its FastConnect Wi-Fi/Bluetooth systems, which is found in more than 900 Wi-Fi 6 and 6E devices launched or in-development.
Qualcomm has also collaborated with Bullitt and Motorola in releasing new smartphones with satellite communication technology. The new phones will be able to work with the Snapdragon Satellite, which will allow two-way messaging between users in far-off places, using hardware developed by Bullitt and Motorola.
Going back to the still-to-be-revealed Snapdragon chip, we’ll have to wait a bit more until Qualcomm officially announces the SoC (or at least someone on the internet leaks it).
