Acer recently announced the launch of the Predator Orion X, the lates addition to the company’s gaming desktop range. Combining a relatively compact build and a rather gaming-centric design, the Orion X is set to launch later this year.
As expected of Acer’s Predator brand, the Orion X is more than capable of handling the latest PC games thanks to a special edition 13th Gen Intel Cor i9-13900KS processor inside, which features 24 cores, 32 threads, 150W TDP with hybrid architecture, and can reach up to 6 Ghz for high-powered processor performance. This is aided by a liquid-cooled NVIDIA GeForce RTX™ 4090 GPU, which comes with 24 GB of G6X. Acer says that the Orion is custom-engineered to enable this entire set-up to fit inside a portable chassis.
Weighing at just 9 kg (19.8 lbs), Acer says that the computer’s design is inspired by a “space capsule” look, and was designed with multiple compartments (aka “zones”) that contain the CPU, GPU and liquid cooling system, which is rarely seen on desktop computer setups of this size. It’s also upgradeable, meaning that users can add or remove components through a removable magnetic front cover, and metal side panels that shield the insides of the computer. Additionally, there’s also a mechanical arm at the top which holds that headset cradle.
Zone 1 is designed for easy accessibility to the CPU, PSU, and SSD, while Zone 2 keeps the VGA and dual 2.5-inch SATA HDD slots nearby. Meanwhile, Zone 3 helps keep the Orion’s powerful internals safe inside with a 240 mm CPU liquid cooler.
The Predator Orion X can accommodate both gamers and creators thanks to up to 32 GB of DDR5-5600 RAM, a couple of M.2 SSDs (up to 1 TB each), and an illuminated, hot-swap NVMe M.2 SSD drive bay for extra storage capacity. The DIY gaming rig also offers fast and seamless connectivity with Intel’s Killer E3100G and Killer Wi-Fi 6E AX211, as well as multiple ports including two USB3.2 Gen1 (one Type-C and one Type-A) ports, a mic and combo jack at the front, a USB 3.2 Gen2x2 Type-C port, three USB 3.2 Gen2 Type-A ports, two USB 2.0 ports, and an RJ45 located at the rear panel.
The Predator Orion X also comes with support for the PredatorSense 4.0 utility app, which lets users monitor their system for overclocking, and even customizing their RGB lighting preferences via a personalized, intuitive interface geared around maximizing the system’s true potential. As for pricing and availability, the Predator Orion X will be available for buyers in North America later in September, starting at $2999.99, and in EMEA in September, starting at EUR 2,499.
