Nintendo’s much-awaited Switch successor has been the subject of countless leaks over the year, so much so that there are times when you’re not really sure whether or not to believe what you’re reading. As it nears its (expected) launch date however, we’re starting to see more and more “cohesive” leaks from different sources, and this latest one does look rather plausible.
A list of several key specifications of the Nintendo Switch successor (which we’ll refer to as the Switch 2 for now) was shared online by @deckwizardyt over on X/Twitter. This past month alone there have been numerous leaks about the Switch 2’s design, although this one shares photos showing the handheld’s alleged design, in addition to the rest of the console. And unsurprisingly, it looks rather familiar, if a wee bit different.
Overall Design
Based on the photos shared, the Switch 2 will unsurprisingly come with a design that resembles the original and OLED versions of the console, featuring a main tablet portion with detachable controllers. This time around, the Joy-Cons will feature a magnetic connection point rather than the sliding rail mechanism that Nintendo currently uses, as well as Hall Effect analogue sticks, which if true would mean less drift, something that was a problem of the original Switch. There’s also an additional button on the right-hand Joy-Con, in addition to larger buttons.
The Switch 2’s main tablet component will also feature a kickstand, but will come with a larger size thanks to the alleged 8-inch display. It’s suggested that the console will use an LCD display, which if true would be a disappointing change from the Switch OLED as LCD panels tend to have less impressive colours and viewing angles versus their OLED counterparts.

Additional Details
Another key component of the Switch 2 is the dock – this time around, the new console will supposedly feature a shorter dock, meaning that players will be able to see half of the console’s display when in docked mode. The dock will also feature a more curved design in comparison to the current model, which itself is slightly different compared to the first-generation Switch dock. The Switch 2 will also be available in grey, white, and a special Mario Kart 9 edition, the latter of which is rumoured to be a launch title.
The Twitter page also shared a handful of photos showing the Switch 2 in a protective case, showing what appears to be a slimmed-down stand, which is a bit different in terms of design versus the current kickstand design on the Switch OLED. Finally, it’s predicted that the console will be announced as early as January next year, with a later release date to follow. With all that said though, it’s important to note that nothing is absolutely official at the moment, at least until we get more solid leaks.
