Building on the popularity of its “Fire” range of tablet devices, Amazon today announced its newest addition to its hardware product line, in the form of the Amazon Fire Max 11. An 11-inch tablet, the Fire Max is the largest Android-based slate from the e-commerce giant so farm outsizing even its own 10-inch Fire Tablet. According to Amazon, the device is its “biggest and most powerful” tablet yet.
New Hardware
Amazon states that the device will be able to provide up to 14 hours of battery life, with support for up to 128GB of built-in storage, as well as an “enhanced processor” that will supposedly improve streaming, gaming, and multi-tasking experiences for users. In terms of design, the tablet comes with a pretty familiar look reminiscent of other Amazon Fire tablets, although it does feature slightly slimmed-down bezels, and a more “edgy” look in comparison. The aluminium build is a much-welcome upgrade especially considering that most Amazon tablets are made from plastic, and puts it in league with other tablets with more “premium” designs.
The front of the tablet houses an 11-inch screen with a 2000 x 1200 pixel resolution, which should be ideal for web browsing, ebook sessions, and Netflix binges. It also comes with added support for stylus input, adding a bit of productivity to an otherwise basic-looking device. This push towards productivity features has also resulted in split-screen support, although it should be interesting to see how the somewhat small 4GB of RAM inside manages to handle such functionality. Additionally, compatibility with wireless keyboards makes a comeback this time again, which should work well in tandem with the aforementioned stylus support.
Considering its specs sheet and pricing (listed below), it’s clear that Amazon has positioned the Fire Max to compete with other mid-range Android tablets such as the Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite and Tab A-series, and other sub-500 quid offerings from less-known brands.
