Amazon has evolved over the years from a simple online commerce platform, to one of the biggest tech companies in the world today. Aside from online shopping, the company is also primarily known for its “Alexa” line of smart devices, as well as its “Kindle” and “Fire” hardware range. With that being said, Amazon is expanding its Fire product selection to include smart TVs. The new TVs are available for buyers in the UK, and include several models.
Fire TV Omni QLED Series
First up is the Fire TV Omni QLED Series, which comes with a starting price of £549.99. The Omni QLED TVs will be available in four sizes, including 43”, 50”, 55“, and 65” variants. One feature that comes with the Omni QLED Series is the “Ambient Experience” that allows the TV screen to turn into a personal display for artwork, personal photos, music, and customisable Alexa Widgets whenever it’s not actively in use. The Omni QLED Series uses its built-in presence sensors to detect when a person enters the room and can automatically switch into Ambient Experience mode.
Fire TV 4-Series
Amazon also launched the Fire TV 4-Series, which starts at a price of £429.99. In terms of hardware, the Fire TV 4-Series lineup incorporates 4K UHD resolution with HDR10 and HLG, which Amazon says provides users with cinematic picture quality when viewing 4K-compatible TV shows and films. The TVs also comes with support for the Alexa Voice Remote, allowing users to discover content in a rather convenient manner. As for size variations, the TV 4 lineup includes 43”, 50”, and 55” model sizes.
Fire TV 2-Series
With a starting price of £249.99, the Fire TV 2-Series are the most affordable models of the bunch. The lineup features 32” and 40” model sizes, with the 32-inch variant featuring support for 720p HD resolution, while the Fire TV 2-Series 40-inch model will support Full 1080p HD resolution. The entire 2-Series lineup includes support for HDR 10, HLG, and Dolby Digital Audio as well.
Cloud Gaming and Luna
Additionally, Amazon also announced its cloud gaming service and its Luna Controller which will now be available in the UK. Customers can use Luna to access and stream console-quality games on devices they already own, while Prime members can stream a rotating selection of games at no additional cost.
Cloud Gaming has certainly seen a rise in user adoption, with platforms like Microsoft’s Xbox Cloud Gaming service leading the pack at the moment. Previously, Google did try its hand at cloud-based gaming with its Stadia platform, although the services has been fully shut down back in January of 2023.
The Luna game catalogue includes a wide array of titles across three different subscription services, and the Luna Controller is available for £59.99.
