What's This?

If you’re a Google, POCO or Sony Xperia fan, then you might be pleased to know that both companies have teased new and upcoming smartphones this May, which should no doubt be exciting for folks looking to get their hands on a new Pixel, Sony or POCO-branded Android phone. As such, we’ve gotten word of the upcoming launches. Let’s take a look at what to expect!

POCO F5 Series

First up is POCO, which has teased its upcoming unveiling for the POCO F5 series. While the company’s POCO X-series phones serve as the bleeding-edge premium segment of the brand, the F-series are more of a midrange bracket range, a step above the M and C-series in the entry-level POCO segment.

With that in mind, POCO’s official Twitter account recently sent out a teaser post for the POCO F5 and F5 Pro, and while the post itself doesn’t give out too much information regarding the launch (no images were shared either), POCO did give us some fancy artwork, and the quote “Ignite your hyperpower,” which suggests some gaming-oriented usage and performance that fans can expect.

As for the date of the launch, the event will be online, and is scheduled to stream on May 9 on 20:00 GMT-8. No hardware details were shared, but its very likely that the phones will feature wide screens, large-capacity batteries with fast-charging support, as well as multiple camera arrays.

Next Xperia Flagship

Up next is Sony. While the company hasn’t mentioned anything online about its upcoming flagship, there’s a big chance that its scheduled launch event could feature its next top-of-the-line flagship, the Xperia 1 V. In a Twitter post, Sony shared the tagline “Next-gen Sensor. Next-gen Imaging. Next ONE is coming,” which might indicate a one-inch camera sensor onboard. Should this be true, this isn’t the first time that we’ll be seeing a 1-inch sensor on a smartphone, as Xiaomi and Vivo have beaten Sony to the punch.

The phone is set to be revealed via a YouTube stream on 1:00 PM Japan Time / 6:00 AM CEST, and at the moment Sony has done a great job keeping quiet about the device itself. Unless we get more leaks, Xperia fans will have to wait just a bit more for additional details on the phone.

Other Phone Launches

Another big phone that’s expected to arrive soon is the Pixel 7a, Google’s upcoming midrange handset. At this point it’s been leaked to oblivion, thanks to a ton of online leaks which have pretty much revealed everything to know about the device, which is expected to launch on May 10 at Google I/O.

It’s speculated that the device will bear more similarities to the mainline Pixel 7 flagship, sharing a lot of the same hardware. For starters, the 7a will run on the Tensor G2 chip that’s also found in the Pixel 7 phones, and will feature 8GB of RAM (a first for Pixel A devices) and 128GB of internal storage, a 64MP main camera, and a 12MP ultra-wide sensor in addition to the main camera.

In any case, May will be a pretty busy month in terms of phone launches, and fans will have a lot to look forward to.
