Apple’s CEO Tim Cook spoke on Charlie Rose about Steve Jobs, Apple TV, acquiring Beats, and he also spoke on the idea Apple cannot hide anything from the public, relevant with the amount of iPhone 6 and Apple Watch leaks prior to announcement.
Cook claims that the company is working on a variety of products, and these new products have not been rumored yet. That scraps the iTV or Apple HDTV project, which comes up every year, but never is announced at the events.
It is hard for a product not to leak in 2014, the amount of access given to third party manufacturing companies allows them to take the device, even in the early stages, photo it, stick it on Weibo and let the whole world see.
Apple has found a counter to this – reveal the product before they start manufacturing. It might work for the Apple Watch, set to start manufacturing in early 2015, but it might also have an adverse effect, now that people will be waiting for half a year.
This is where the “not yet leaked” part is hard to follow, if Tim Cook thinks it is surprising that these products have been leaked, it must mean they are being manufactured. This might mean little changes like the iPad Pro or the new MacBooks.
We just cannot see a huge new category of hardware products not getting leaked, if they are in the manufacturing line of Foxconn or Pegatron, Apple’s two Chinese manufacturers. If it is software, Apple’s software rarely is leaked, even though Apple Pay did get leaked a few days prior to the official announcement.
It is interesting to see Tim Cook still has things hidden for Apple, we thought the Apple Watch would be the last “big thing” for Apple, but hopefully this means the company is working on even more new product categories in the near future.
