What's This?

There’s truly an app for everything, and checking on your favourite team’s standings just got a bit easier on iOS – Apple recently announced that it’s launching a new app catered towards sports fans, which will let users access real-time updates on their favourite games, leagues and more. Known as “Apple Sports,” the app will be available for iOS users as a free download from the App Store.

Apple says that the Apple Sports app was designed and developed with speed and simplicity in mind, and provides users with a personalised experience that puts their leagues and teams front and centre, alongside an easy-to-use interface designed by Apple. Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Services states:

“We created Apple Sports to give sports fans what they want — an app that delivers incredibly fast access to scores and stats… Apple Sports is available for free in the App Store, and makes it easy for users to stay up to date with their favourite teams and leagues.”

With being said, Apple Sports will give fans up-to-date info on several sports leagues currently in season, which includes the MLS, NBA, NCAA men’s and women’s basketball, NHL, Bundesliga, LaLiga, Liga MX, Ligue 1, Premier League, and Serie A. Apple does state that more sports leagues will become available via the app later on, such as the MLB, NFL, NCAAF, NWSL, and WNBA for their upcoming seasons.

The app allows users to customise their scoreboards on Apple Sports by following their favourite teams, tournaments, and leagues. Users can also navigate between scores and upcoming games, explore play-by-play information, team stats, lineup details, and live betting odds, and tap to go to the Apple TV app to watch live games from Apple and connected streaming apps. Apple Sports will also sync with favourites selected within the My Sports experience including in the Apple TV app and Apple News.

As for availability, the Apple Sports app will be available to download beginning today in the United States, United Kingdom and Canada, with support for English, as well as French and Spanish where available. The app will be compatible with all iPhone models running iOS 17.2 or later.
