If you’re a a Mac or MacBook user looking to upgrade from an older machine, now is the best time to do so – Apple has just announced its new 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro, which feature the M2 Pro and M2 Max, the latest processors which will power Apple laptops and desktops moving forward. Also released was the company’s new Mac Mini for desktop users.
Power with Pro
Apple says that its next-generation silicon brings “even more power-efficient performance and battery life to pro users.” Alongside the M2 Pro and M2 Max, the MacBook Pro is designed to take on demanding applications and programs, including effects rendering, gaming, and content creation, to name a few. The company says that it has also improved battery efficiency on MacBook Pro, which can now last up to 22 hours. According to Greg Joswiak, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing:
“MacBook Pro with Apple silicon has been a game changer, empowering pros to push the limits of their workflows while on the go and do things they never thought possible on a laptop. Today the MacBook Pro gets even better. With faster performance, enhanced connectivity, and the longest battery life ever in a Mac, along with the best display in a laptop, there’s simply nothing else like it.”
In terms of hardware, the new MacBook Pro comes with support for Wi-Fi 6E, HDMI with 8K support, a Liquid Retina XDR display, 1080p FaceTime HD camera, a six-speaker sound system, and high-quality mics, and up to 96GB of unified memory in the M2 Max model. The new 14 and 16-inch MacBook Pros can be ordered today, with availability beginning Tuesday, January 24.
Apple’s newest hardware and processors have been the subject of much speculation for the past few weeks, with the company’s last biggest release being the iPad 10th Generation a few months back.
Mac Mini Gets an Upgrade
For Apple users after a more desktop-based solution for their computing needs, Apple also released the newest model of its Mac Mini, which features the new M2 and M2 Pro chips. With a starting price of $649, Apple says that its new Mac Mini comes with impressive performance in a small and compact design. Greg Joswiak states:
“With incredible capabilities and a wide array of connectivity in its compact design, Mac mini is used in so many places, in so many different ways. Today, we’re excited to take it even further with M2 and M2 Pro. Bringing even more performance and a lower starting price, Mac mini with M2 is a tremendous value. And for users who need powerful pro performance, Mac mini with M2 Pro is unlike any other desktop in its class.”
The new Mac Mini will feature more unified memory, and even support for up to two displays on the M2 model, with support for up to three displays on the M2 Pro model. Apple says that it’s designed to enable users to level-up their productivity and creativity – customers can order the new Mac mini models today, with availability starting on Tuesday, January 24.
