ASUS is preparing to launch the newest PadFone Infinity A86 next week, with the company adding a small video on their website and a countdown, currently at six days.
The launch will happen in Taiwan and for a time this will be the only place to pick up the PadFone Infinity A86, but we expect it to be coming to Europe and possibly the US in a matter of months.
ASUS has yet to gain significant presence in the UK or the US, even though their PadFone Infinity brand is liked in some European areas. The idea is to combine a smartphone (PadFone) with a tablet (FonePad), the PadFone can be placed inside the dock at the back of the tablet.
The new PadFone Infinity A86 has some minor changes but the overall design of the smartphone remains the same. The processor has been swapped to the meaty giant, Qualcomm’s quad-core Snapdragon 800, clocked at 2.2GHz. This comes with 2GB of RAM to keep everything nice and smooth.
Other than that it is mostly the same device and is still compatible with the previous version of the FonePad, hinting that there will not be a new one with the release of the smartphone.
The PadFone Infinity A86 should be running Android 4.2.2 at launch with a quick upgrade to Android 4.3 on the way. ASUS has gained a little bit of quick-speed with updates thanks to helping out with the Nexus tablet line.
