What's This?

The arrival of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X chips for Windows laptops and desktop setups caused quite a lot of hype and stir upon their arrival, showing that Arm-based computers have a lot of potential especially when compared to their x86 counterparts. With that being said, pretty much all of the major PC brands were quick to launch their own Snapdragon-powered laptops, and this of course includes Taiwanese hardware giant ASUS. In fact, the company only recently introduced the new Vivobook S14 and S16, both of which come with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X (X1 26 100) processor.

As you can probably tell from their naming scheme, the biggest difference between the Vivobook S14 and S16 is the display size, with the S14 packing a 14-inch display and the S16 featuring a larger 16-inch screen. Both models come with different display configurations – the S14 features a 14-inch WUXGA (1920 x 1200) OLED panel with a 16:10 aspect ratio, a 60Hz refresh rate and 300 nits of brightness, although users can opt for a 14-inch 2.5K (2560 x 1600) IPS display with a 16:10 aspect ratio and a 60Hz refresh rate, with 400 nits of brightness as well. The same applies for the Vivobook S16, although it obviously comes with the larger display.

As for memory and storage, both models also feature a bit of flexibility with regards to how much you want with your device. Both the Vivobook S14 and S16 come with either 16GB or 32GB of LPDDR5X RAM, with storage options that include a generous 1TB M.2 NVMe PCIe 4.0 SSD which should be ideal for folks looking for a dedicated productivity device, or a more moderate 512GB M.2 NVMe PCIe 4.0 SSD configuration for more “moderate” users. In addition to the Snapdragon X chip, there’s also an Adreno GPU onboard, as well as a choice of either Windows 11 Home or Windows 11 Pro.

ASUS has also packed a ton of other hardware features into the laptops – these include a 1080p resolution camera with IR capabilities for biometrics, two USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports with data transfer speeds up to 5Gbps, a pair of USB4 Gen 3 Type-C ports for display output and power delivery at 40Gbps. For external display connections, an HDMI 2.1 TMDS port, in addition to a 3.5mm combo audio jack. Regardless of which size you go for, you’re also getting a 70Wh battery inside which should be enough to run your usual suite of Windows applications, as well as Microsoft’s Copilot+ AI features.
