The ASUS Padfone Infinity is an odd device with an odd name, but it has done well oversees and in some European areas. The Padfone fits into the Fonepad, a tablet with a cartridge for holding the Padfone.
The Padfone Infinity A86 is the next in the brand line and will not change much in terms of specs. The recent version of the Padfone Infinity was just released in February at MWC 2013, it came with a Snapdragon 600 chip and some impressive specs to match it with the competition at that time.
ASUS will just upgrade the processor on the new Padfone Infinity A86 to a Snapdragon 800 chip, this will give it a 2.3GHz clock speed amongst other small boosts in performance. Samsung had the same idea with the Galaxy S4, after shipping it out with the Snapdragon 600, they change the CPU to Snapdragon 800 for some later units in specific regions.
The report says that nothing else will be changed on the device and it will work with this generation Fonepad tablet. This is a good move by ASUS to keep compatibility on the rise, but it does make it a little less exciting, especially given the price jump.
The Padfone Infinity could have had a little boost in the display or battery life, overall it is a good smartphone for a consumer who also wants a tablet, but it may not be ideal when the HTC One, Galaxy S4 other Android phones are on offer for a little cheaper.
