The weather hasn’t been the best for the past few months if not years and this year seems to have taken a different toll on us; longer season of cold showers and temperatures means we are leaving our gas running for longer periods to keep our homes warm during this cold times and all we can show for it is higher bills and coping with the flunctuation of Gas tarrifs.
Technology has been used in so many fields and it’s about time Gas companies are spending some money on researching new way sto help home owners and workers cope with their gas bills. British Gas have committed to providing Smart Meters in all homes by 2019. They are starting this roll out now, with 160,000 homes in the UK already having a Smart Meter.
Traditionally, meters sit under your stairs or in the garage and are only disturbed when the meter reader comes to take a reading. Well, at first sight, smart meters don’t look a whole lot different…but are worlds apart. Like their conventional cousins, they still sit in infrequently visited locations, but now they’re not even disturbed by meter readers. This is because these clever devices communicate to an in-home display unit (a Smart Energy Monitor), giving you an instant view of your energy consumption for both gas and electric.
How will the British Gas Smart Meter benefit gas bill payers?
- Hassle free automatic meter readings
- End of estimated bills – you pay for what you use
- You can control energy usage via a user friendly energy monitor, online or through our smart phone app
- Control brings choice, which brings opportunity to reduce energy consumption (economical savings and environmental benefits)
Smart Meter will replace current gas and electricity meters, and with the addition of a stylish Smart Energy Monitor (that can easily be placed in a kitchen or dining room) you will be able to see how much energy you’re using in pounds and pence… So you can see exactly what it costs to boil that kettle, play your favourite x-box game, keep the heating on all night, or how much cheaper it is to have a shower rather than a bath.
No doubt users will welcome this move and it’s good to see that British Gas are trying to help even when they can’t lower Gas and Electric prices.
