What's This?

If you were in the market for a portable mic solution from a reliable brand, then you might want to check out what DJI is offering with its new Mic Mini. As you can probably tell from the name itself, the DJI Mic Mini is a miniscule microphone setup that promises good sound quality, while weighing (and costing) much less than most microphone setups these days. DJI says that the Mic Mini is designed for content creators, but what does it exactly come with?

DJI wasn’t kidding when it said that the Mic Mini was portable – according to the company, the Mic Mini weighs in at 10 grams, and is fairly compact allowing users to wear it discreetly on clothing, without taking too much space on their outfit. Users can also choose to wear it on a lanyard instead, or even clip it on magnetically. The Mic Mini also comes in an all-in-one charging case, which stores the receiver as well as the transmitters, phone adapter plugs, and a windscreen as well.

It features two-level noise canceling technology, which essentially lets users record in loud environments or even more quiet settings such as indoor scenarios, and can reduce background noise from air conditioning, reverb, and the like – this goes the same for wind noise when outdoors. The Mic Mini also features automatic limiting, which can conveniently lower volume in case audio input is a bit on the high side, reducing the likelihood of clipping and distortion. Of course, users can choose to manually adjust gain via the mic’s receiver, which offers five levels for input sound capture.

DJI has integrated omnidirectional audio recording, which allows the Mic Mini’s receiver to pair with two transmitters at once and record audio from multiple sources without compromising on the overall sound quality. Dual-channel recording is also present, and users can opt to separate the audio from the two transmitters, or keep it into a single track. For smartphones, the DJI Mimo App allows users to record at a volume six dB lower than the main track, which reduces clipping and distortion during recording sessions.

Being that it’s a wireless microphone, the DJI Mic Mini can transmit audio at a maximum of 400 metres, although this might vary based on your location, immediate surroundings and barriers around you. DJi does promise that its anti-interference capabilities will ensure high-quality recordings even in busy environments. As for the battery, a single charge can provide up to 48 hours of extended use, with one hour of use from a five-minute quick charge.

The Mic Mini is also designed to play nicely with DJI’s OsmoAudio ecosystem, which lets the mic connect directly with the Osmo Action 5 Pro, Osmo Action 4, or Osmo Pocket 3 without a receiver. Additionally, the Mic Mini can pair with smartphones via Bluetooth, and will work even with third-party filming software. Finally, users can set-up the DJI Fly app to the DJI Neo drone and DJI Mic Mini wirelessly – it’s a very versatile piece of kit, allowing a lot of freedom in terms of usage and hardware compatibility.

As for pricing, the DJI Mic Mini can be purchased from DJI’s online store and partner retailers, and it starts at £145 which includes a bundle consisting of a receiver, transmitters, and charging case.
