Google has revealed the Nexus 7, Android 4.3 and Chromecast at their event today. The Nexus 7 and Android 4.3 have been rumoured for a while now, with the past week playing host to Nexus 7 unboxing and Android 4.3 build leaks.
The Nexus 7 has many of the features we have already heard about, the 1920 x 1200 resolution, 5MP rear camera and the design looks exactly like the leaks showed. The seven inch tablet will come with a 1.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro chip and 2GB of RAM.
One of the most surprising features on the Nexus 7 is the LTE availability. The Nexus 7 will come with three separate options, a 16GB option for $229, a 32GB option for $269 and a 32GB LTE option for $349.
Android 4.3 was the next to be revealed, it comes with restrictions to make sure kids cannot see in-app purchases, it also comes with Bluetooth low energy, OpenGL ES 3.0 for game developers and video encryption DRM for apps like Netflix and Hulu.
Chromecast was one of the biggest surprises, it is a two-inch dongle that is put into the HDMI port on a TV to allow users to “cast” videos from a phone, tablet or laptop straight onto the TV. Currently, only Google, Netflix and Pandora actually use the SDK, but Google is hoping for more developers to join the band. Chromecast will ship for $35 and is only available in the US right now.
