When talking about tablet devices, it’s important to note the different price brackets involved when making your purchase decision. Users looking for high-end premium devices with a focus on productivity and power usually opt for something from Apple or Microsoft, but for more casual audiences who just want a reliable device that allows for content consumption, day-to-day tasks and general internet use, Amazon’s Fire range of tablets makes for an excellent value proposition.
With that in mind, Amazon recently announced a new batch of tablets under its Fire branding, which includes devices like the Fire HD 10, as well as several new devices for youngsters. Powered by a heavily-modified version of Android, the new Amazon tablets are designed to give users instant access to services like Prime Video, Alexa, and other third-party apps and software, all at an affordable price. What exactly do you get with the new tablets? Let’s take a look.
Fire HD 10
A staple of Amazon’s Fire tablet devices, the fire HD 10 gets a newer model which comes with some slight upgrades to hardware. Building on the popularity of earlier 10-inch Fire tablet models, the 2023 Fire 10 HD comes with some new tricks up its sleeve – Amazon says that it has equipped its latest 10-inch model with faster processing times, an overall lighter design, better selfie camera, and improved battery life.
In terms of specifics, the Fire HD 10 comes with a 1080p-resolution screen, 3GB of RAM, and up to 13 hours of battery life, although we’d wager that this will still be dependent on your individual usage. The Fire HD 10 starts at £149.99, and will be available in Black, Lilac, and Ocean colour variants.
Fire HD 10 Kids
Like the main edition, Amazon’s new Fire HD 10 Kids edition also comes with some nifty upgrades in terms of hardware. With a 10.1-inch display, the 2023 Fire HD 10 Kids is designed for children with ages ranging from three to seven years old, resulting in a slightly bulkier look and feel that’s designed for drops and bumps. It shares some specs with the Fire HD 10, such as a 1080p-resolution touch screen, 3GB of RAM and up to 13 hours of battery life.
With that being said, it does come with a few software extras such as parental controls, and includes 12 months of Amazon Kids+ content. It’s available for pre-order today starting at £199.99, and will ship next month.
Fire HD 10 Kids Pro
Designed for older kids with ages ranging from six to twelve years old, the Amazon Fire HD 10 Kids Pro likewise comes with a lot of the same hardware that we’ve mentioned earlier – this includes the built-in 3GB of RAM, a 10.1-inch display with 1080p resolution, 5MP cameras, and up to 13 hours of usage. On one hand though, it does come with a slightly slimmer design compared to the “regular” Fire HD 10 Kids model, although it retains a somewhat chunky look.
The Fire HD 10 Kids Pro tablet will also come with 12 months of Amazon Kids+ content, and is available for pre-order today starting at £199.99, and will ship next month.
Music Maker
In addition to its new tablets, Amazon has decided to go all-in with age-friendly content with “Music Maker.” The new feature is designed to add a new experience for subscribers on Amazon Kids+, and will be available on the Kids edition of Amazon’s Fire devices. Essentially, Music Maker lets younger users play around with different musical instruments and sound effects on their tablet, and even helps them come up with their own compositions and melodies, thanks to AI.
In addition to its 2023 range of Fire HD 10 tablets, Amazon also announced several other devices, such as its new Echo Show 8, as well as a new Ring camera.
