What's This?

Perhaps aside from CES, Samsung’s latest flagship launch was undoubtedly the biggest highlight of January – the Galaxy S smartphones are always met with much anticipation, and the hype surrounding this year’s Galaxy S25 unveiling keeps in line with the rest of Samsung’s product launches. With that in mind, if you were focused on the main trio of phones then you might have not stuck around long enough for some of Samsung’s additional announcements during their Unpacked Event – let’s check them out!

Google & Samsung Team-up

The Galaxy S25’s launch was also an opportunity for Google to announce some of its latest software product updates with AI. It’s no secret that both companies have been extra-friendly with each other over the years, and for this one Google’s new updates will be available for both its own Pixel 9 series phones, as well as the Galaxy S25 devices.

Several new updates will be coming to Gemini, including quick access to the assistant when long-pressing the S25’s side button. Google will also expand Gemini Extension support for apps including Samsung Reminder, Samsung Calendar, Samsung Notes and Clock, in addition to support for “chain actions,” which will let users instruct more than one task to Gemini, i.e. “Show me a nearby grocery store and then create a shopping list.” When conversing with Gemini Live, users will also be able to upload media files including photos and videos, and even YouTube links.

Another Google product that’s getting updates is Circle to Search – Google states that it will be expanding Circle to Search’s AI Overviews to include more info on trending images and places, and more. Gen AI snapshots will also include extra information and direct access to web links without requiring users to switch apps. Finally, Circle to Search will gain support for one-tap actions when contacting phone numbers, links and email addresses.

Samsung-Exclusive Features

Users in the US will get access to Samsung’s exclusive “Galaxy Watch for Kids” experience, which will allow parents to set-up their child’s Galaxy Watch 7 with their phone for safety and security features. At the moment, the feature is limited to Galaxy Watch 7 LTE models is it requires eSIM functionality. With this, parents can activate the Watch’s eSIM once paired with their phone, and set-up features including location sharing, contacts management, and even a built-in SOS feature that can be used via the Galaxy Watch 7’s side button.

Samsung also announced that the Galaxy S25 series will get LE Audio support which will work with hearing aid connectivity for users who use features including hands-free calling and personalized audio. Samsung adds that Braille display support (through HID) will arrive to TalkBack 15 on the Galaxy S25 models, although this will be followed by an expanded launch for more devices in the coming months. Additionally, the Samsung “Now Bar” feature will integrate smart space cards for added news updates straight from their lockscreen.

A Fourth S25 Model

Finally, Samsung also announced the Galaxy S25 Edge – contrary to what you might think, this fourth model will not come with a curved-edge display, despite the “Edge” naming convention. It’s a sleeker variant which features one less camera as well, although the company has yet to reveal details on specs and pricing. Also on display was “Project Moohan,” Samsung’s upcoming XR headset.
