It’s that time of the year again – as far as major tech events go, September has always been Apple’s month, since the tech giant announces its latest iPhone models during this time. With that said, we’ve finally seen Apple’s newest iPhone 16 models, as well as the new Apple Watch Series 10 and AirPods 4. With that in mind, maybe you missed all the big announcements from today, and you might be curious as to what you can expect from Apple’s latest gear – that’s what we’re here for. Let’s take a look!
iPhone 16 and 16 Plus
Let’s start with the base-model iPhones, the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus. While they still come with 60Hz displays, Apple has added some new elements to its “vanilla” model iPhones, which now feature a new camera layout for spatial content support, a new dedicated camera control button with haptic features, as more vibrant colours including ultramarine, teal, pink, black, and white.
The two biggest upgrades however are the camera system and chip inside. The iPhone 16 and 16 Plus are equipped with a 48MP main sensor with what Apple refers to as “Fusion camera” technology, a 2x telephoto lens, and a 12MP ultra-wide lens, as well as support for spatial video capture. There’s also a more powerful A18 chip inside, a 3nm SoC with a 16-core neural engine, and ray tracing for more immersive gaming visuals The iPhone 16 is priced at £799, while the iPhone 16 Plus is available for £899.
iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max
Of course most of the spotlight is on the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max. The company’s more premium smartphones feature larger displays this time around, measuring 6.3 inches for the smaller Pro and 6.9 inches for the Pro Max, and are crafted from Grade 5 titanium. There’s also a new colour this year in the form of Desert Titanium, which replaces the blue variant that we got last year with the iPhone 15 Pro.
Apple has unsurprisingly focused on performance and content creation this year – inside is the A18 Pro chip, built with 3nm technology and a 6-core GPU which the company claims packs powerful enhancements for gaming and Apple Intelligence features, the latter of which are still under development at the moment. Meanwhile, the camera system includes a 48MP main sensor with the same fusion camera configuration on the regular 16 models, an ultra-wide lens, and a 5x telephoto lens. New camera features include support for real-time photographic styles, and there’s also 4K video recording at 120fps, Spatial Audio capture, and Voice Notes layering. The iPhone 16 Pro starts at £999, while the iPhone 16 Pro Max is priced at £1199.
Apple Watch Series 10
Apple also introduced its latest smartwatch, the Apple Watch Series 10. The device features a larger wide-angle OLED display that matches the size of the Ultra model and comes in a new finish with polished aluminum available in Jet Black, Silver, and Rose Gold finishes, while a polished titanium option is also available. Measuring 9.7mm thick, the watch includes a metal back plate and offers direct media playback through its speaker, foregoing the need for wireless earbuds. Powered by the S10 processor and running on Watch OS 11, the smartwatch also includes a new sleep apnea detection feature and starts at £399.
AirPods 4
Last but not the least are the AirPods Pro 4 – Apple says that it’s updated the design for a better fit all around, in addition to several new features. Inside, the H2 chip provides improved audio performance, including personalized spatial audio for an immersive listening experience. The charging case is now smaller with a USB-C port for charging, and features built-in speakers for Find My. Apple adds that the earbuds can last for up to 30 hours of battery life. Active noise cancellation and adaptive audio with auto mode switching ensure optimal sound quality in various environments; there’s also conversation awareness and auto volume adjustment allow users to engage in conversations while wearing the earbuds. The AirPods 4 start at £129.
Apple also announced new colour variants to some existing products such as the AirPods Max, which now come in several colours with USB-C charging, as well as the Apple Watch Ultra 2 which now comes in a new black paintjob.
