Huawei could be prepping a Google Edition of the Ascend P6, the company’s latest flagship smartphone and the current holder of the title “thinnest smartphone” at 6.18mm thick.
President of the Handset Product Division, Kevin Ho, told reporters Huawei is working with Google to create stock Android experience on the Ascend P6, removing the Emotions UI currently available on the smartphone.
This directly contradicts another statement made by Chairman Richard Yu, who said on stage the company would not look to make a stock Android experience, because the Emotions UI fills the gaps the stock Android experience brings.
While some users may argue the basic Android experience is more fluid and gives the user more customisation, Huawei owns the phone development at the end of the day, but it seems the company has different plans for the Ascend P6.
The Huawei Ascend P6 would be the third smartphone to get the Google Edition experience, with the Galaxy S4 and HTC One partnering with Google very quickly, possibly for more income from stock Android lovers.
We have heard details about the Xperia Z and LG Optimus G Pro getting stock Android options and we suspect Google is looking to carve out as many relationships with partners as possible, to widen the variety.
