As far as smartphone brands go, Infinix is one of those names that you might associate with the more affordable side of things, as the company markets a considerable amount of budget and midrange Android phones. In recent years though, Infinix has been stepping up its smartphone game, and as a result we’ve gotten some pretty impressive hardware which can go toe-to-toe with devices from popular brands such as Xiaomi for example.
With that in mind, the new Infinix Zero 40 punches above its weight, and packs specs which aren’t often seen on a phone of this price range. Priced at around £300 when converted, there’s a lot that the phone gets right, and might even make it tempting for folks looking at a fairly affordable smartphone.
Performance and Software
One major highlight of the Infinix Zero 40 is its chipset – inside is a MediaTek Dimensity 8200 Ultimate SoC, a chip that’s seen some good reviews online in terms of benchmarks and general performance. The 8200 Ultimate chip works in tandem with 12GB of RAM, which is a nice upgrade from the usual 8GB that we see on most devices at this price segment. The phone is also available in either 256 or 512GB of internal storage, and is powered by a 5,000 mAh battery that’s compatible with 45W fast-charging speeds.
Meanwhile, the phone thankfully comes with Android 14, although you also get XOS onboard, which is Infinix’s custom Android skin. XOS gives users access to exclusive apps and software, in addition to third-party content as well. There’s even a pre-installed GoPro Quik app that supports connectivity with select GoPro camera models.
Design and Display
The Infinix Zero 40 comes with a good-looking design, and you might even mistake it for a handset that’s several hundred dollars more expensive. This design wraps around a curved 6.78-inch AMOLED display, which features a 1080 x 2436 pixel resolution in addition to a 144Hz refresh rate and a maximum peak brightness of 1,300 nits. The display is also covered by a protective layer of Gorilla Glass 5, again a welcome feature considering the phone’s price (the Pixel 8a for example only comes with Gorilla Glass 3).
Turn the phone over and you’ll be greeted by a pleasant-feeling matte panel, which surrounds a large circular camera module. There’s no metal on the sides of the phone though, as its frame is made from plastic, coated with a glossy finish. The Zero 40 comes with a bit of splash protection thanks to an IP54 rating. This design is available in a trio of colours including “Rock Black,” “Violet Garden,” and “Moving Titanium.”
Camera Hardware
We mentioned the phone’s large camera island, which houses a set of cameras that’s usually found on most budget and midrange Android phones. The Infinix Zero 40’s camera setup consists of a 108 MP main camera, 50 MP ultrawide camera, and 2 MP depth camera. There’s also a 50 MP camera in front for selfies and video calls. Video quality maxes out at 4K resolution at 60 fps, and there’s also support for stabilization with gyro-EIS and OIS.
