What's This?

As far as desktop computing is concerned, Intel is one of those brands that’s long been a staple in the industry, thanks to a tried-and-tested selection of powerful processors. With that in mind, the company recently announced the launch of its new Intel Core 14th Generation desktop processors, which features the flagship i9-14900K processor.

Intel states that its latest-generation desktop processor family consists of six new unlocked desktop processors at launch, with up to 24 cores and 32 threads, as well as up to 6 GHz of frequency right out of the box.

Adding to this, the Intel Core i7-14700K comes with 20 cores and 28 threads, which is made possible with four additional Efficient-cores (E-cores). Intel has also included its Extreme Tuning Utility (XTU), which now comes with a new AI Assist feature, allowing users to easily enable AI-guided overclocking with compatible Intel Core 14th Gen desktop processors.

Designed for Work and Play

Aside from upgrades in performance, Intel’s newest batch of processors is no different from its predecessors, which are designed for both productivity and gaming thanks to their hybrid architecture. The company says that PC users get all the performance they need out of their machine, without needing to compromise their workflow. Speaking about the new products, Roger Chandler, Intel Vice President and General Manager states:

Since the introduction of our performance hybrid architecture, Intel has consistently raised the bar for desktop performance. With our Intel Core 14th Generation processors, we’re showing once again why enthusiasts turn to Intel for the best desktop experience available on the market today.”

Intel claims that the i9-14900K is currently the world’s fastest desktop processor, and features 6 GHz speeds which should be more then enough for high-performance gaming titles. Meanwhile, the i7-14700K for example fits more on the lines of content creation, ideal for video production, graphics design, and more.

Feature Highlights

For gaming, Intel states that the 14th Generation processors come with up to 23% gaming performance uplift versus rivals like the AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D, aided by gaming-centric features such as Intel’s own Application Optimization, that provides application threading alongside Intel’s existing Thread Director thread scheduling.

For overclocking, Intel claims that the 14th Gen processors provide a seamless overclocking experience for users, which includes Intel’s new XTU Assist Feature for AI-guided overclocking (as mentioned earlier), including support for DDR5 XMP speeds well beyond 8,000 megatransfers/second (MT/S).

In terms of connectivity, the new processors come with integrated support for Wi-Fi 6/6E and Bluetooth 5.3, including discrete support for new Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 wireless technologies. Intel has also equipped the Core 14th Gen processors with support for Thunderbolt 4 and upcoming Thunderbolt 5 wired connectivity, and up to up to 80 Gbps of bi-directional bandwidth support. The Core 14th Gen desktop processors are also compatible with both Intel 600 and 700 series chipsets, so enthusiasts can easily upgrade their existing systems for their gaming and productivity needs.

Pricing and Availability

As for availability, the Intel Core 14th Gen desktop processors will be available at retail outlets and via OEM partner systems on 17th October 2023.
