According to recent reports from several iOS developers, a new folder in the beta version of iOS7 named “BiometricKitUI” is the new fingerprint sensor technology, which will reportedly be unveiled on the iPhone 5S at Apple’s event on September 6.
The fingerprint scanning technology will not be a hardware feature but instead embedded into the OS, it may even be possible for developers to add the technology to their iOS app. That is a pretty exciting feature, for users and developers alike and it will add security on apps from a system level.
Apple needs a big leap in innovation and while the fingerprint scanning technology is exciting, it has been used on enterprise computers for the past decade with almost no real innovation.
When Apple acquired AuthenTec earlier this year, we knew some new security features would come from the $260 million acquisition. This may just be the first step in Apple’s move to make iOS devices more secure than Android and Windows Phone.
We are still unsure if this will only come to the iPhone 5S or if the iPhone Lite will get the fingerprint technology as well. If it is for all iOS7 apps, we guess both smartphones will get it, but Apple may add a sensor on the smartphone to make fingerprints readable.
