One of the best things about smartphone leaks is that they just keep coming, no matter what the brand or device might be. With that in mind, we’re starting to see more and more details surrounding Apple’s much-anticipated (although still unconfirmed) fourth-generation iPhone SE, which is predicted to come with a lot of new upgrades that greatly set it apart from earlier SE iPhones. Of course as with all smartphone leaks, do take these with a grain of salt – nevertheless though, they are pretty juicy.
New and Updated Design
First up is probably the biggest rumoured change, which is its design – the iPhone SE 4 will supposedly feature a revamped design that ditches the small LCD screen and home button, which were staples on all three previous SE models. Instead, the SE 4 will feature a much larger OLED screen which is expected to come at either 6 or 6.1 inches, with a notch for Face ID hardware. Since it is an SE model, it’s unlikely that Apple will bring over the Dynamic Island feature, which is reserved for flagship models.
Interestingly, leaks also claim that Apple might equip the iPhone SE 4 with the action button in lieu of the mute switch, which has now been slowly phased out on newer iPhone models. This might also fall in line with the company establishing a more uniform hardware approach to its phones moving forward, as the action button isn’t exactly a “flagship-grade” feature by any means. The same can be said for the USB-C port, which is expected to appear on the SE 4.
Performance, Software and Camera
Many speculate that Apple will bring its A18 chipset to the iPhone SE 4, which shouldn’t be too surprising given that the iPhone SE 3 likewise came with the A15 Bionic, which appeared on the iPhone 13 series just months before its launch. It will also feature 8GB of RAM, a big leap versus the 4GB of RAM on the iPhone SE 3. For software, the phone will launch with iOS 18 onboard – this means that you get newer features such as RCS, better UI customization, and there’s even word that certain AI features will be available on the SE 4.
As for camera, the iPhone SE 4 will very likely feature a single 48MP sensor at the back, and it’s unlikely that Apple will equip it with a secondary ultrawide sensor, as it’s another feature that’s reserved solely for its flagship devices. The SE phones have more or less focused on giving users the bare essentials, so this was to be expected.
Pricing and Launch Date
At the moment, it’s strongly believed that Apple will launch the iPhone SE 4 around March next year, which mirrors the early-year launch date of the SE 3 back in 2022. Certain reports also indicate that Apple suppliers are now preparing for the device’s launch soon; as for pricing, the iPhone SE 4 is rumoured to come with a price between £400 to £500, taking on devices like the Pixel 8a which initially launched at a similar price bracket.
