What's This?

We remember right after the Xperia Z1 event in September, rumors started poking out about the Xperia Z2, codenamed Sirius. There was a specs sheet leaked and an image of the apparent smartphone, even though it was unlikely we would see the device for a few months.

Everything died down for a few months, but it looks like the Xperia Z2 rumors and leaks are back up, ahead of a possible Mobile World Congress launch, next week. The two images posted include a side-by-side white and black version of the Xperia Z2 and a comparison between the original Xperia Z, the Z1 and the Z2.

The Xperia Z2 is the one on the left, the Z1 is in the middle and the original Z is on the right. The changes on the front of the device are minimal, we have heard Sony will chop down even more of the side bezel, making it a true edge-to-edge display.

Compared to the Xperia Z1, the Z2 has curved corners, instead of the rough rectangle on the Z1. The Xperia Z2 is also 0.2-inches bigger than the two other phones on screen size and we believe Sony will add a 2560 x 1440 pixel display.

The Xperia Z2 is expected to be a thinner device and may come in purple, one of Sony’s primary colors. The dedicated on/off button on the side of the device will still be there and it looks like Sony is taking a step back to the original Xperia Z design.

Internally, the Xperia Z2 should be rocking a Snapdragon 800 processor, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage and 3000mAh battery, non removable.

We should see a new version of the Xperia Compact come out, a few months after the Xperia Z2 release. We may also see the Xperia Z2 Ultra crop up in a few months, sporting a gigantic 6-inch display.
