What's This?

It’s been a while since we’ve seen a dedicated gaming tablet – gone are the days when manufacturers would develop and promote gaming-centric tablets (like the Nvidia Shield, for example), and the industry has since given way to a landscape where tablets are marketed more towards productivity. Despite this however, we’ve witnessed a sudden resurgence of dedicated gaming handhelds, with big names such as Valve, ASUS, Razer and more joining the party.

CHECK OUT: Lenovo’s Legion GO is Official

Lenovo is one of these big names, having launched its Legion GO portable handheld several months ago. With that in mind, it’s a bit strange why the manufacturer then decided to release the Legion Tab, an Android-powered slate designed mostly for gaming. Perhaps Lenovo wanted to cover all bases, or maybe it wants to tap into a market that’s not as crowded these days. Nevertheless, the launch of the Lenovo Legion Tab might be enough to entice users after a particular niche of tech – so what exactly does it come with? Let’s check it out.

With this being a tablet, the first thing that you’ll notice is the large 8.8-inch display up front. Lenovo has equipped the Legion Tab’s display with a QHD+ resolution for clear viewing, in addition to a 144Hz refresh rate, something not usually seen on most tablets. We suppose this helps set it apart from the hoi polloi of Android slates out there, a lot of which are limited to 120hz displays even in the premium segment. This large display is wrapped in a sleek chassis which comes in a single “Storm Grey” colour.

More importantly, the Legion Tab packs a capable chipset in the form of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, a flagship-tier SoC which while not the latest in the market (that honour goes to the 8 Gen 3), is still a decent choice for a device in this price range. If we’re being honest though, an 8 Gen 2 chip would have been a better choice. The 8+ Gen 1 is joined by 12GB of RAM as well 256GB of expandable storage, meaning that you’ll be able to slap a micro SD card in the device for additional storage. The Legion Tab is powered by a 6,550 mAh battery, which we suppose is large enough and should suffice for most usage scenarios.

Thankfully, Lenovo went beyond the usual array of high-end specs for its new tablet – the Legion Tab packs two features that you won’t find on your standard run-of-the-mill Android tablets. This consists of a custom cooling system which should no doubt come in handy for intense gaming sessions, as well as haptic feedback which is something that you don’t normally see in devices at this price.

As for pricing and availability, interested buyers will want to keep an eye out for when the tablet arrives in their respective regions. Lenovo says that the Legion Tab will be available in select markets this month including Europe, Middle East, Africa and Asia, and will come priced starting at €599.
