The LG G Pro 2 has just started to make the rounds worldwide, but it looks like LG will not be waiting very long to announce the LG G3, their new flagship smartphone for the second half of 2014.
In the earnings call for Q1, LG representatives said the LG G3 would appear on the second half of 2014 and sources for The Verge have confirmed the date on May 27, when LG will announce the device.
The tagline this time will be “To be simple is to be Great” with emphasis on the G for their brand. The tagline has a brushed metal look, possibly hinting at a new metal design, instead of the plastic LG has been adding to their devices in the past.
We all know LG likes to run with odd taglines so we cannot take the quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson too seriously. The LG G2 tagline was “learning from you” yet it didn’t have any contextual information or natural learning processing.
The LG G3 will be an upgrade in the specifications department, adding a QHD 2650 x 1440 resolution display, along with a quad-core Snapdragon 801 processor and 3GB of RAM, with multiple storage options.
It is expected that LG will add a fingerprint sensor to the LG G3, along with another mysterious sensor on the back of the device, possibly a heart-rate monitor or IR blaster, along with changes to the UI.
We are not sure what changes the LG G3 will bring on the software side, with all of the random new features LG added last generation, it is hard to give any guesses as to what they will bring to their software skin next year.
It is a bit of a quicker year in terms of smartphone launches, Samsung announced their Galaxy S5 a few months earlier than last year and it looks like the LG G3 will come three months earlier than its predecessor did.
