LG’s Optimus line is one of the big winners for the company at the moment, pushing the phone manufacturer into third place worldwide.
The South Korean mobile giant may want to keep momentum going with the new Optimus G2, which would take the throne as flagship for the company, pushing the Optimus G Pro out of the way.
LG has had a pretty poor reputation for getting smartphones to carriers in the US and around Europe, with the Optimus G Pro still not out on AT&T, with May 10 the official release date.
However, some forum commenters on AndroidPolice found an interest piece on the Sprint website, possibly showing the new Optimus G2 with a Snapdragon 800 processor.
The alleged Optimus G2 will also come with a 1080p display, although we have yet to find out what the screen size will be. With previous LG Optimus devices having phablet sized screens, we can expect something between 5 – 6 inches.
There is a possibility this could be an upgrade version of the Optimus G Pro, for Sprint’s carrier network only. This move may attract power users, with the Snapdragon 800 processor and 1080p display.
It is more likely this is a completely new device, in our opinion, considering the smartphone has a whole new chipset and initial details seem to show a very high tier phone.
We have also heard recent reports LG will be launching the next Optimus G2 either in Q4 2013 or Q1 2014 and we normally see LG launch smartphones late in the year.
It may take a couple of months to hit the UK and US shores and most LG devices come out way after Samsung, HTC, Apple and Sony get their smartphones out to customers in those areas.
LG does want to have a more powerful stake overseas and getting units out to Sprint early may be a way of achieving this.
